F as Frikadeller

Frikadeller recipe by our ambassador Leonilde:

Ingredients:
  • 500 gr. of minced meat
  • 80 gr. of bread crumbs
  • 1 onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 beer (33 cl.)
  • 50 gr. of butter
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 lemon juice
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • flour
Preparation:
Mince the onion and cook it in a pan with the oil for about 15 minutes, until it becomes soft. Cool it. In a bowl, stir the meat with the onion, the pepper, the grated nutmeg, the cinnamon, the eggs and the bread crumbs. Mix well and leave to rest for about 10 minutes.
Make little balls with the meat using the hands to give them a round shape, then put on the flour.
In the meanwhile, melt the butter, put the meatballs to brown, add the beer and the lemon juice. When the sauce dries off and it becomes like a cream, the frikadeller are ready.
Serve with boiled potatoes.

In our cooking trip around the European Community countries, Frikadeller represent Denmark.
Denmark, officially the Kingdom of Denmark, is a state in the Scandinavian region of Northern Europe with the two autonomous constituent countries in the north Atlantic Ocean, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark is the southernmost of the Nordic countries, located southwest of Sweden, south of Norway and bordered to the south by Germany. Denmark consists of a peninsula, Jutland, and the Danish archipelago of 407 islands, which includes Zealand, Vendsyssel-Thy, Funen, Lolland, Falster and Bornholm. The national language, Danish, is closely related to Swedish and Norwegian.
